Don't try to focus on both cardio and strength at the same time. This is not to say you should not perform cardiovascular exercises when you are attempting to build muscle. In fact, cardio is an important part of physical fitness. However, you should not heavily train cardio, such as preparing for a marathon, if you are trying to focus on building muscle. The two types of exercises can conflict, minimizing effectiveness on both fronts.

Eat a lot of protein. It's a well known fact that the more protein your body can store, the more muscle you can build. Try to have at least one gram of the protein you need for every pound that you weigh. For instance, a 150 pound woman should attempt to eat approximately 150 grams, meat and other protein, every day.

Plan out your routine properly. It is a good idea to work on only one or two specific muscle groups per day instead of jumping around. By doing this you will be able to give your muscles enough time to rest before you put them through another really exhausting workout session. Your muscles just need some time to heal.

Continually change your exercise routine. If you do the same workout routine day in and day out, there is a higher chance that you will get bored, and probably stop your workouts altogether. Try to very your workout each day to keep working different muscles. If you are able to do this successfully, you will not get as tired of your routines, and you will want to continue to do them.

Patience is the key. You are not going to develop rock hard muscle mass overnight. You are going to have to work long and hard to get the results that you hope for. Do not allow yourself to become discouraged if you are not seeing the results you hoped for. Keep your goals reasonable and safe.

If you have been working out for a while, though you feel like your muscles are not getting as big as you would like them to be, try to focus your workouts on your biggest muscles. Work more on your chest, legs and back. This will help to increase your protein synthesis, which will help your muscles to get larger.

Many people who wish to build muscle use protein shakes and meal replacements. It is important to note however that there is a distinction between the two. It can be dangerous to your health to use protein shakes frequently as a meal replacement. A full meal contains many essential nutrients that are not included in protein shakes. In addition, living off protein shakes can leave your muscles soft which negates your muscle building efforts.

Having a body which works for you and not against you will make you feel amazing. In combination with cardiovascular exercise, weight training brings you greater results in a shorter amount of time than cardio exercise alone. Put them together, work out a lot, and you'll see the changes to your body.
